His character can be somewhat forgiven due to studio interference in the production of Suicide Squad. Jared Leto’s Joker was soured by his questionable character design, limited screen time, and somewhat cringey dialogue. However, due to the show’s campy and child-friendly nature, Romero’s Joker acts more like a silly prankster looking for a laugh, with no desire to kill people or create havoc, which doesn’t quite hold up in the age of modern comic book stories. He even refused to shave his mustache to play the character, and it is clearly visible despite his white makeup. That was the hope, that we would get to see them come together but also, in particular, reflecting on each other and their struggle with each other and the why a little bit, so that was really fun for me.” “I think without a scene where they get to air their dirty laundry about each other, I felt like we were getting shortchanged as fans of the DC Universe. “It really defines, in my mind, the mythological heart of the conflict that both of them share is their relationship,” Snyder said of his film’s depiction.
